Grapevine author Andrew Brininstool will hold a hometown launch event for his new book, High Desert Blood: The 1980 New Mexico Prison Riot and the Tragedy of the Williams Brothers.

He’ll give a reading from the book, sign copies and conduct a brief question-and-answer session at 6 p.m. on July 18 at Kiss It Good Buy, 201 E. Franklin St. in downtown Grapevine.

The true-crime book examines the roots of the infamous prison riot, which left 33 inmates dead and more than 200 injured. A dozen prison guards were taken hostage during the ordeal, and seven suffered serious injuries.
