Costco fans are about to get another shopping spot in North Texas.
The warehouse club — known for its large quantities, baked chickens and food samples — is set to open its latest local store in Allen next month, according to its website. The site is located just south of State Highway 121 on Stacey Road and already includes buildings with its well-known red and blue signage.
The new store is another addition to the growing lineup for Costco in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In March, it opened its doors in the growing city of Prosper, in the north-central portion of the region. The next day, it did the same in Weatherford, which is part of the active area west of Fort Worth. And there has been activity that points to other stores, including one in Celina and another in Forney.
The big retailer, which has more than 10 stores in the Dallas region, is extending its reach as it faces intensifying competition from Walmart’s Sam’s Club and BJ’s Wholesale Club, which is pushing into the local market. Costco has plans for about 15 locations in the U.S., with roughly 25 overall including overseas markets, during its current fiscal year that began in September, according to an investor presentation. It will have over 900 stores with the bigger lineup.
The company is also seeing more spending by customers. Sales growth rose 8% in the third fiscal quarter while comparable sales in the U.S. climbed 6.6%.
And it’s not just this part of the state that’s benefiting from Costco’s investments. A Midland site is also opening this month, according to the website.
